Author’s Note: While reading the story Jekyll and Hyde, I saw the devilish/righteous and satanic/catholic duality pop up quite often within this story. The one that is expressed the most is the devilish side of Mr. Hyde. Mr. Utterson (who has the name of a cow) is trying to reveal the truth behind Mr. Hyde after trampling the innocent child. In the case that Mr. Utterson is describing Mr. Hyde,  I always see Hyde as a devilish figure in disguise, one who creeps around as a black silhouette with sharp teeth, red eyes, and an overcoat, and of course to top hat to hide the horns. Oh and I tried to mimic some of the author’s writing styles as well.

Quote from the story; pages 48-49:
The figure in these two phases haunted the lawyer at night; and if at any time he dozed over, it was but to see it glide more stealthily through the sleeping houses, or move the more swiftly, even to dizziness, through wider labyrinths or lamp-lighted city, and at every street corner crush a child and leaver her screaming. And still the figure had no face by which he might know it; even in his dreams, it had no face, or one that baffled him and melted before his eyes and thus it was that there sprang up and grew apace in the lawyer’s mind a singularly strong, almost inordinate, curiosity to behold the features of the real Mr. Hyde.

In the quote above I underlined every word that reminds me of Hyde’s appearance. What do I think of his appearance? I think he looks ghastly, he wanders about tormenting biotic factors of a neighborhood.
He phases through the scene like a ghost, haunting the area, with other persons or objects failing to impede his journey. I see him as nocturnal, stumbling into sunlight only when needed. Like a ghost, he swiftly moves through the moment, as if he is shifting or phasing past everything, gliding with ease towards his destination, expect his destination isn’t specified, which causes his thoughts, feelings and ideas to become a mental maze and a physically hindering labyrinth. He reminds me of the Minotaur within the Labyrinth from ancient Greek mythology, wandering about waiting for its food which comes only once in seven years.  He appears without warning, simply popping up at the corners of the world, or in this case the neighborhood, leaving people screaming in physical pain and dementia. The ghastly figure has no face, no distinct features, which kind of negates the sharp, smiling teeth and the red eyes but that’s what I still picture. Mr. Hyde’s final appearance consists of suspended, intangible, ghostly green rags with a face that one cannot see normally, but under certain circumstances red eyes and a blinding white smile with dagger-like teeth form.
