Author's Note: With the unraveling of the entire story in chapter 10 , the concept wasn't a very big surprise to me, however the plot was a little astonishing. The biggest thing I noticed in this chapter is the true fight between good and evil and the nature vs. nurture idea. I also saw a few defense mechanisms in there and many other concepts.

Dr. Henry Jekyll went through a very difficult battle with his counterpart, Mr. Hyde. The question is, who killed who? In my opinion, they both killed each other, just in a different way.

---Jekyll was in an everlasting battle in order to contain Hyde and prevent his devilish ways, however the only way to do this was to keep consuming the potion that allowed him to stay in the form of Jekyll. When he couldn't get a hold of this specific concoction anymore, the only thing that he was able to do was to kill himself, in turn killing Hyde as well. Jekyll killed Hyde mentally, for Hyde is simply a part of Jekyll and can't be his own being, however Hyde was able to kill Jekyll physically.

Dr. Henry Jekyll symbolized the good in all of us while Hyde symbolized the evil, so who's more powerful?

---Everybody is born innocent until they do something wrong. Jekyll's research sparked his curiosity and he was eventually able to make a mixture that allowed him to transform into Hyde, but in this case, Hyde was able to conquer Jekyll and eventually he took over as the primary person. He's just like a ghost possessing someone's soul and making them commit terrible crimes. Whenever you see a cartoon or another time where there's good vs. evil, usually the evil is less intelligent, slower, and so on, but the evil is always more powerful than the good side, this is that cartoon or other thing that you're thinking about. Hyde was able to take over Jekyll and snatch the body and claim it as his own, making him more powerful, however Jekyll was the one who committed suicide, Jekyll was the one who had control, Jekyll was the one with all the control.

I saw a couple defense mechanism in the story, so who used which ones and why?

---Jekyll's main defense mechanism was intellectualism, the ability to think and make a list of everything that he needed to do. This links back to the book of trials that he went through when he was attempting to find the correct formula for his transformation potion. Being the intelligent man that he is, he is able to think about everything that bothers him and make the situation much less stressful than it first appeared to be. Hyde on the other hand doesn't use a defense mechanism for he is able to commit terrible crimes and get away with it, and at the same time he doesn't feel any compassion for the people being effected, he has no reason to use one.

In the argument of nature vs. nurture, there was an obvious victor in this story, but the question is, which one is it and for whom?

---Jekyll was born into a giant fortune, a physically strong body, and a mind suited perfectly for the world, yet he was also forced to hold a curse. He was also born with a mindset that there are two people to each body, a duel personality, which eventually lead to his fall. He was able to release that other half of  his mind through the knowledge he had gained and the sacrifices he had made, although without that intention that he was born with, he would have never had to make these sacrifices, even though without the nurtured knowledge, he would never have been able to accomplish these tasks. Jekyll's disposition on the nature vs. nurture is obviously, it's both. The original mindset is what triggers the nurtured mindset, working in coalition with each other.

---Hyde was born purely out of Jekyll, and therefore it makes sense that he was a combination of nature and nurture, right? Wrong. At first Hyde was a combination of both for he was summoned only when Jekyll consumed the potion, however as the story continues on, Hyde becomes the controlling entity purely because Jekyll had taken the mixture too often, therefore Hyde was nurtured by an outstanding power in order to reach his status, he was not created to take over Jekyll, it simply just came down to that, thus leading to the death of them both.
